Once Upon a Time

We are introducing SolMates , a sunglass alternative with plain vision on the top and magnification on the bottom to make reading (or seeing the numbers on your cell phone) easier. Our glasses are a convenient and beautiful solution for outdoor reading. A year ago we were hard working mothers who worked outside the home and in, of course. We were looking for a project that would serve two purposes: Pay for our kids’ college and allow us to wear what we want while spending a lot of time in Starbucks. Then, the most wonderful thing happened…… Once upon a time, Cathy and her friend Rick were in a park on a sunny day struggling over the dilemma of reading and watching their children play in the distance. It seemed that both tasks could only be accomplished by wearing two pairs of glasses, one for the sun and one for the Book Review. Cathy and Rick, who are both style-

conscious, quickly became aware that overlapping glasses is not a sophisticated look.  Always thoughtful, Rick gave Cathy a nifty gift, a pair of sunglasses that were non-corrective on the top part of the lens and reader capability on the bottom. He meant well, but it was the ugliest pair of glasses you could ever imagine. Cathy showed the glasses to Liz who loved the concept but they agreed that the sunglasses could never be worn in public. As they searched the internet and their favorite stores an idea was born because they COULD NOT find any cool bifocal sunglasses. SolMates was born out of a love of reading and the desire to keep the whole aging process under wraps. As Bette Davis said, “Growing older is not for sissies.” We hope that Solmates will make the process easier and more beautiful.
